Using steam can be effective for removing acne. In this simple treatment, you'll need a bowl of hot water and a large cloth. Two very important precautions to point out: first, do not use boiling water. Instead, use hot water from the tap, and secondly, do not use plastic to cover your head as you risk suffocation.
Fill the bowl with hot water and place your face over the bowl. Place the cloth over your head to hold in the steam. Stay under the cloth for about 10 minutes. Then use an astringent to clean and wipe off any oils that have been drawn out by the steam. Cold water can act as an astringent. Other astringents are witch hazel or apple cider vinegar. But be sure to test these first on a small area to check for allergies. You can also try adding one or all of these herbs to the steam water: red clover, lavender, and strawberry leaves.
For your first time, only stay for 5 minutes under the cloth in order to check for any adverse reaction. Those with very sensitive skin may have a bad reaction to the steam, especially if the water was to hot.
